The Tobeatic Wilderness Area located in southwest Nova Scotia spans nearly 120,000 hectares of dense coniferous and deciduous forests. It features expansive wetlands, over 100 lakes, and provides critical habitat for endangered species such as the Mainland moose and Blanding’s turtle. The illustration depicts a beaver dam. Beavers are ecosystem engineers—they build dams that create ponds, which in turn support a wide variety of wildlife, including fish, birds, mammals, amphibians, and insects.
